From pickup to delivery – what’s involved in a full shipment
In logistics, you’ll often hear the phrase ‘door to door’ – but what does that actually mean? And what should it include?
When we refer to ‘door to door’ at Green Leaves Logistics, we’re talking about the coordination of a shipment from collection through to final delivery – where required and possible. It doesn’t always mean a fixed all-in-one service, but it does mean we stay involved and keep things moving at every stage.
The ‘door’ at the start
Every shipment begins somewhere – a warehouse, a factory, a supplier overseas. A true end-to-end service starts with the first mile. That means arranging collection, sorting the right vehicle or container, ensuring paperwork is in place, and making sure timings are realistic.
Sometimes, the first challenge is simply getting the cargo out of the warehouse in time. Other times, it’s making sure customs paperwork is correct before anything leaves. And often, it’s about spotting that a different pickup time or route might save the client time, cost or carbon.
Everything in between
Most shipments travel further and through more hands than people think. Coordinating everything between the doors often involves:
- Local haulage to a port or airport
- Sea or air transport, sometimes via a third country
- Transhipment or unloading and reloading
- Temporary storage or warehousing
- Customs clearance at one or more points
- Final-mile delivery by road
Each step brings its own requirements, timings, and risk of delay. Door to door doesn’t mean handing it off and hoping for the best – it means keeping track and solving problems as they arise.
The final mile matters
The end of the journey is often the most time-sensitive. It might be a loading bay with a tight booking window, a retail site prepping for a launch, or a building site with limited access. Final-mile delivery means confirming local arrangements, managing last-minute changes, and keeping everyone updated.
That’s why real door-to-door support includes flexibility, responsiveness, and good communication. It’s not just about getting goods delivered – it’s about helping clients stay confident and in control.
What we include
At Green Leaves Logistics, when we support door-to-door coordination, it typically includes:
- Collection
- Export clearance
- Freight booking
- Emissions tracking (where required)
- Import clearance
- Final delivery
And throughout it all – updates, advice, quick answers, and the occasional last-minute call to keep things moving.
Because when it all comes together – from door to door – the customer sees the result, not the effort behind it. And that’s exactly how it should be.
