Air Way Bill

AWB
The AWB is a contract of carriage document used by airlines and acts as a receipt. The document cannot be negotiated and is not a title to the goods.

Arrival Notice

A notice sent to the goods receiver (or other nominated party) to notify them of the arrival date of a shipment.

ATA Carnet

A customs document that facilitates the temporary export of commercial samples, trade fair or exhibition goods and professional equipment by permitting tax-free and duty-free importation (in Carnet accepting countries).

ATR1

ATR1
A customs certificate used in trade between the EU and Turkey to claim preferential duty rates.

Bill of Lading

BOL, BL or B/L
A legal transport document issued by a carrier or shipping agent that: I. Acts as a contract of carriage and is issued by a carrier or shipping agent. II. Acts as proof of loading / shipment. III. Serves as a document of title to the goods. The Bill of Lading is sometimes abbreviated as BOL, BL or B/L.

CO
An international trade document that confirms a product’s country of origin.

Commercial Invoice

CI
A document used in international trade that represents the contract of sale between shipper and receiver and is crucial for customs clearance.

Dangerous Goods Notes

DGN
An international multimodal transport document used to accompany the movement of dangerous goods that declares the dangers of the goods being transported.

EUR1

EUR1
A proof of origin customs certificate used in trade between the UK / EU with partner countries to claim preferential duty rates.

Export Accompanying Document

EAD
A document that accompanies the goods to the office of exit.

Export Cargo Shipping Instructions

ECSI
A document provided to the carrier that contains detalis of the cargo to be shipped, parties involved and shipping requirements.

HAWB
A House Airway Bill (HAWB) is a receipt issued by a freight forwarder evidencing the contract of carriage for goods being transported by air.

Letter of Credit

LOC / L/C
A document issued by a bank and used in international trade to guarantee the buyer’s payment to the seller.

Material Safety Data Sheet

MSDS
A document containing techical information relating to a controlled product.

Master Air Way Bill

MAWB
A Master Airway Bill (MAWB) is a receipt issued by a carrier evidencing the contract of carriage for goods being transported by air.

Proof of Delivery

POD
A document that confirms that goods have been received by the consignee.

Sea Way Bill

SWB
A transport document that acts as a receipt of the goods being transported and evidence of a contact of carriage but, unlike a Bill of Lading, does not serve as a document of title.

T

T1 Transit Document

T1
A document and transit procedure that allows for the free movement of non-EU goods within the EU.
